Biography:
Hermannus Haga (Oldeboorn, January 24, 1852 – Zeist, September 11, 1936) studied physics at Leiden University from 1871 to 1876. He earned his doctorate with a dissertation titled On the Absorption of Radiant Heat by Water Vapor under P.L. Rijke. From 1886 to 1921, he served as a professor of physics at the University of Groningen, where he established a physics laboratory. His research included the electrical voltage supplied by the Weston standard cell—which contributed to the definition of the volt—alongside Cornelis Wind on the scattering of X-rays by crystal lattices, demonstrating the wave nature of this radiation. Haga was also one of the founders of the Dutch Physical Society.
