Provenance and acquisition

Biography: Willem Diemer (Onstwedde, 20 februari 1922 - La Nucia (Spanje), 12 maart 1994) was a Dutch teacher in Enschede, a neerlandicus, novelist, literary critic, and publisher. He was the son of Willem Diemer (1891-1953), the alderman of the then Onstwedde municipality.

After completing his education, Diemer worked as a Dutch teacher in Enschede but left his position for medical reasons in 1972. He then dedicated himself to literature and culture, particularly that of Groningen. He was also a publisher (Stabo/ All-Round), and worked as an antiquarian after 1972. Under the pseudonym of Stoffer de Boer, he wrote the radio play De badde is oaf ...; ‘n veenkolonioale volkstroagedie in 1946.

Together with Simon van Wattum and Jan Niehoff, he founded and edited ‘t Swieniegellje, in which he criticised Groningen texts that did not meet literary standards. He was also extremely critical in other cases.

Diemer was an employee of the RON(O) and co-founder of the Regional Broadcaster East (Hengelo) and the Association of Saxon Schrievers. He has also published several other works.
