TalencentrumVertalen en corrigerenStyle GuidePunctuationQuotation marks

1.  Use single inverted commas in running text and to indicate the name of an article:

They have cut down the trees in the name of 'progress'.

Mr Brock read a paper on 'Description in Poetry'.

‘How are you today’, said Mary.

2.  Where you need quotes within quotes, use double inverted commas.

‘Did you hear what he said? He said “Go away!” so that’s what you should do.’

Punctuation should be outside quotations, unless it forms part of the quotation.
