- Lecturer in Dutch for native and non-native speakers
I have been working for the Language Centre as a grade-one lecturer for years. I have a lot of experience teaching NT2 courses. I give a lecture series called ‘Social Dutch’, for instance, an introduction to the characteristics of the Dutch language interspersed with illustrative facts about our national history and culture. I greatly enjoy this series, which is intended for international students and staff and has them practising sounds and words at the top of their voices. I am specialized in Dutch writing and presentation courses for native speakers – professionals in the business world as well as university and university of applied sciences students. I am also involved in the publication of teaching methods for NT2 at the Language Centre.
I also set up non-University training programmes and courses, so my expertise lies in many different areas. I can teach you how to write a management summary and, with equal ease and pleasure, explain how to write a sonnet. In my free time I write and publish prose and poetry.
I love teaching and I love the Dutch language. If you want to prosper in this country you need to have a thorough command of Dutch; that applies to non-native as well as native speakers. I want to motivate people to see Dutch not as an end in itself but as a means to an end, after which I open their eyes to how beautiful these means can be when used properly!
