AGOR accelerator

The central facility of KVI-CART is AGOR, a superconducting K=600 MeV cyclotron for the acceleration of light and heavy ions. The cyclotron is equipped with external ion sources. There are several experimental facilities for research at KVI-CART, which can be used in conjunction with ancillary equipment.

KVI-CART is a user facility for the international scientific community. Proposals for experiments will be evaluated on the basis of their scientific merit by the AGOR Programme Advisory Committee (PAC). Beam time proposal submission deadlines are September 1 and March 1.

The AGOR facility is available for commercial use by industries, businesses and the public sector.

Within the framework of EU-funded Transational Access, KVI-CART has for a long time offered support to international research groups for performing AGOR-based experiments. Starting in Spring 2016, Transnational Access is available via ENSAR2, a Horizon2020 “Integrating and opening existing national and regional research infrastructures of European interest” action.

The AGOR Cyclotron

AGOR (Accélérateur Groningen-ORsay) is the result of the cooperation between the KVI-CART, Groningen, and the IPN, Orsay. Its design was a joint effort of both the institues; building took place in France. After testing it was disassembled and moved to the Netherlands.

Since the beginning of 1996, AGOR has produced beams for experimental use. The AGOR pages aim to inform you about the cyclotron possible beams (operating diagramme), and the various beams produced up until now.

Research experiments at the AGOR facility generally need to be approved by the AGOR programme advisory committee.

In addition to the PAC approved experiments the AGOR group has activities in the area of irradiations with the AGORFIRM-facility, an in-air beamline dedicated to irradiation of samples with high energy beams up to 190 MeV protons (solar spectrum) and up to 90 MeV/u Carbon.
