Title: The KM3NeT neutrino observatory

The Netherlands play a leading role in the European KM3NeT project, which
is building the next generation, gigaton, neutrino telescope at a depth of
3.5 km in the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the excellent angular resolution, the
detector will be uniquely capable to identify the sources of the cosmic neutrino
flux observed recently by the IceCube experiment, and to determine the neutrino
mass hierarchy, along with many other topics. I will discuss the technical progress
and the expected science reach of the completed detector.
