Master Class Harvard Sociologist Michèle Lamont, Erasmus Prize winner 2017

On Monday, November 20th, Erasmus Prize winner Michèle Lamont will deliver a Master Class for PhD and research master students at the Department of Sociology in Groningen.

Participants of the Master Class prepare a question based on Michèle Lamont’s research or publications. To enable a careful preparation participants will submit their questions beforehand and present them during the Master Class, where they will be answered by Ms Lamont.

The central question of the Master Class is the contribution of the social sciences in finding solutions for societal problems. Questions can refer to, a.o.:

a.    An advice about a specific aspect of the student’s own research, e.g. concerning the approach of the research question, or the interpretation of outcomes.

b.     A question pertaining the research of Michèle Lamont herself: clarification, practical implications, etc.

c.     A question on the scientific career of Michèle Lamont and the meaning of her research for the development of the discipline

d.    A question on an actual problem in society, and Michèle Lamont’s vision on this problem.

Participation is open to PhD and master students in the humanities and social sciences, but the number of participants is limited. Interested PhD or master students can sign up by email to s.simon rug.nl . After admission, they have to submit their question before Monday, November 13th. Questions should not exceed half a page (A4).

The Master Class takes place on November 20th at 15-17 hrs, in room B.0128, Grote Rozenstraat 31, Groningen. In the evening of that same day, Michèle Lamont will deliver a lecture in the Studium Generale in Groningen.
