FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Subjects Platform
.

How can I participate in a research project?
If you signed up for the Subjects Platform, researchers can approach you for an appointment. The researcher receives basic information about (a part of) the registered test subjects. These test subjects are subsequently approached by email (sometimes by phone). You can always mention it, if you do not want to participate in a research project.

How much do I earn by participating in a research project?
The allowance varies. It depends on the type of research and its duration. You will get an average of €7 per hour.

How do I get paid?
After your participation the researcher has to follow a special payment procedure, due to the anonymity of your participation code, to enable the financial administration to transfer money for your participation to your bank account. This may take some time though, think of a period of one month (it may take substantially longer when there are mistakes in your bankinformation).

How much time do the research projects take?
The duration of each research project is different. On average a research project will take 1 hour.

What type of research does it concern?
All of the research is about understanding human behaviour. You can find a selection of the types of research you may encounter in the menu on the left under Examples. It may involve completing questionnaires on various psychological topics, but you may also be asked to perform chores on the computer when, for example, blood pressure and brain activity are measured. If a researcher approaches you, you will always get detailed information about the research. If you do not want to participate in a project, you may indicate this.

What happens to my data?
All of your details will be treated confidentially (according to the law on the Protection of Personal Data). All of the research that is executed by means of the Subjects Platform is also processed anonymously. This means that your personal information (such as name, phone number and email address) is always stored separately from the research data (e.g. questionnaire scores or test scores). Your personal details are stored in a secure location.

Do I get the results of a research project?
Usually there are no results given of personal test results. This is because there is no comparative material of other people, yet. This is exactly why we need the investigation. In most cases, you can indicate if you would like to receive a summary of the entire study (i.e. the result of a group of people).

What is the difference with SONA?
SONA is the system for compulsory subject study points during the first year of a Psychology Programme. This system persists. The Subjects Platform is designed to complement this. All Psychology students and students from other fields of study can apply to the Subjects Platform and get a fee for participation.

Deregister
