Opening University of Groningen Institute for Deafblindness

Vrijdag 27 september opent het University of Groningen Institute for Deafblindness haar deuren. Het is een interdisciplinair instituut voor onderzoek en onderwijs op het gebied van aangeboren en verworven doofblindheid. Het nieuwe instituut heeft een unieke positie in de wereld omdat het University of Groningen Institute for Deafblindness het eerste onderzoeksinstituut is dat zich volledig op doofblindheid richt. Initiatiefneemster is Marleen Janssen, de eerste hoogleraar doofblindheid ter wereld. Het instituut is ondergebracht binnen het Universitair Ambulatorium Groningen.

Ter gelegenheid van de opening wordt er op vrijdagochtend 27 september as. een symposium georganiseerd in Het Kasteel in Groningen. Sprekers zijn naast initiatiefneemster hoogleraar Marleen Janssen, onder andere Kees Aarts (decaan faculteit GMW), Ramses Vulperhorst (Kentalis), Angelique Koelewijn (DB-Connect), Marlene Daelman, Anne Nafstad, Jacques Souriau (Groningen Study Group on Diversity of Communication), Timothy Hartshorne (Professor of Psychology, Central Michigan University), Christa de Geus (coordinator CHARGE expertise center, University Medical Center Groningen), Ronald Pennings (Radboud University Medical Center) en Nicole Lo-A-Njoe - Kort (Patiënt expert).

’s Middags vindt de officiële opening plaats in het Universitair Ambulatorium Groningen met diverse demonstraties van innovatieve observatie- en analyse-instrumenten die gebruikt wordt voor het video observatie onderzoek naar communicatie met doofblinde personen.
