Historical, Cultural and Religious Anthropology
Prof. Y.B. Kuiper was made professor by special appointment in Historical, Cultural and Religious Anthropology in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Groningen on 1 May 2006, on behalf of the Groningen University Fund . In his teaching and research Yme Kuiper combines historical anthropology and anthropology of religion in order to throw light on the historical and cultural embedding of current changes in the relationship between religion, society and culture.
A significant aspect is an exploration of the complex relationship between religious mobilization and the upsurge in nationalism and ethnic politics, which is evident throughout the world at present. The perspective of religious and historical anthropology can also help to shed light on more traditional and newer forms of religiosity in the Netherlands.
