Department of Christianity and the History of Ideas
The Department of Christianity and the History of Ideas is one of three departments in the Faculty. This multidisciplinary Department seeks to further extend its expertise beyond the study of Christianity and once the profile of the Department is broadened by attracting an Islam-specialist, it will rename itself accordingly. The successful RFF candidate will work with current staff members of the Department of Christianity and History of Ideas across disciplinary, thematic and historical interfaces. Members of the Department participate in the Centre for Religion, Conflict and Globalization, the Centre for Religion and Heritage, and Centre for Religion, Health and Wellbeing of the Faculty.
We welcome applications from leaders in their fields, whose profile can make a strong contribution to our research culture. Applicants may come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, and study diverse aspects of past or contemporary Islamic thought and culture, be it in the form of (bio)ethics, the history of ideas, cultural history, or political or theological thought, to give a few examples.
The successful candidate is expected to do research, to teach, and to supervise undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. She is expected to develop new ideas in research, and to acquire external funding (independently or jointly with other colleagues) for future research. She is expected to develop a conceptually consistent research programme that complements the research of the Department of Christianity and the History of Ideas. Also, she is expected to develop both strong international networks and at the same time have an affinity for the Dutch university context.
With regard to teaching, the appointee will teach undergraduate and graduate classes in her field of expertise. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate in and contribute to the development of the Faculty’s regular Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes as well as to the Research Master programme.
