Webcast: role of women in islam

'There is no one western feminism and there is no one islamic feminism or role of women in islam'

Professor Mona Siddiqui gave a presentation on a public conference on gender and religion organised by the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Groningen. The presentation was based on an article she wrote for The Sunday Herald in Glasgow titled 'Islam & feminism: Are they poles apart?'  You can read this article here. Before the presentation started she gave Knowledge Debate a short outline of the contents in the webcast above.

Mona Siddiqui is Professor of Islamic Studies and Public Understanding at the University of Glasgow. Her areas of research are classical Islamic law, contemporary ethics, Qur'an and Muslim-christian relations.
