Target group

Is this course for you?

The course was developed in 2013 on the experiences and positive evaluations of a large number of Brazilian students in “Architecture and Urbanism”, “Environmental Engineering” and related disciplines. These students had the opportunity to study at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences of the University of Groningen as a “Science without Borders” student between 2013 and 2016. The course also aims to match the interests of students enrolled in partner universities in Indonesia and other countries outside Europe that have expressed an interest in learning about Dutch urban and regional planning practices.

Part One, the 'summer school' course primarily targets students from the city and region where the course is delivered: Brazil. The principle target group consists of advanced undergraduate (bachelor) students: students that have completed 4 or 5 semesters in their undergraduate degree. But also students from other levels, or graduated students from the hosting partner universities, are welcome. As the topic of PASF is first and foremost interdisciplinary, the course is open for all students from all disciplines that are eager to learn about the unique and specific planning tools and policies that have been implemented in the field of sustainable urban and regional development in the Netherlands, and the learning experiences in these (policy) fields.

Part Two, the 'winter school' course in Groningen, is open to all international students.

Both parts of the course are delivered in English. Participants are expected to have a sufficient command of the English language in order to participate in discussions and to write short essays. Participants do not need to submit proof of a language test, but an English language proficiency equal to TOEFL 550 or IELTS 5.5 is expected.
