Courses at other Faculties of the University of Groningen

Students entering the University of Groningen as an exchange student at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences are expected to take most of their courses at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, but are allowed to take up to 10 EC per semester at other Faculties of the University of Groningen. There is no guarantee that visiting exchange students can be enrolled in courses delivered at other Faculties of the University of Groningen; enrollment in courses offered outside the Faculty of Spatial Sciences is subject to entry requirements and capacity restrictions imposed by those other Faculties/Schools/programmes. For each course at another Faculty, the International Office of Spatial Sciences will contact that other Faculty to determine if the exchange student registered at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences can take that course at the other Faculty.

Courses offered at other Faculties of the University of Groningen can be found in the course catalogue Ocasys. Be advised that many courses that can be found through the 'Ocasys' course catalogue are courses with entry requirements or capacity restrictions. Only when it is explicitly mentioned that the course is opened for exchange students, and fully delivered in English, it might be possible for exchange students from other Faculties/Schools to take those courses. Also, a number of courses in 'Ocasys' are presented with an English title, although the courses are delivered in the Dutch language. Course information, lecture dates and times and exam dates and times are subject to change.

In all cases, contact the International Office of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences for assistance.

Language courses offered by the Language Centre

If you are interested in taking a language course, for example a Dutch language course, please be advised that these courses must be paid for. You should register for a Dutch language course yourself, and make the necessary payments, through the Language Centre. The Language Centre does not provide credits for language courses taken. The language course will therefore not be included in the Transcript of Records of study results that we will make available at the end of your exchange. You will receive an attendance certificate from the Language Centre (if you meet the attendance conditions), but the certificate does not include credits. It is up to your home university to decide if you can get credits for a language course in Groningen.
