Sanford Goldberg: Knowledge, Luck and Normativity

When:Th 07-09-2017 10:00 - 12:00
Where:Faculty of Philosophy, room Bèta

Lecture by Sanford Goldberg (Northwestern University) on the occasion of Job de Grefte's PhD defence in the afternoon of the same day.

Abstract:

I will be arguing in this paper that the notion of epistemic luck is a normative notion, deriving from the kinds of expectations we are entitled to have of one another as epistemic subjects.  This has implications for such things as our conception of epistemic normativity as well as our understanding of the internalism/externalism dispute.
