Leah Henderson new Rosalind Franklin Fellow at Faculty of Philosophy and UCG
In the prestigious Rosalind Franklin Programme, the Faculty of Philosophy and the newly established University College Groningen have joined forces. They have appointed Dr Leah Henderson who will start August, 1st, in Groningen. Currently a visiting Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, Leah Henderson specializes in the philosophy of science.
Henderson completed a DPhil in Physics in Oxford (with a Rhodes Scholarship) and later a PhD in Philosophy at the MIT in 2010, and since then has held research and teaching positions in Pittsburgh, both at the University of Pittsburgh and at Carnegie Mellon University. She has broad philosophical interest, with a specialization in the philosophy of science. Her research concerns central questions about the nature and justification of scientific methods, the significance of scientific laws and what role science can play in forming our world-view. In her work she combines discussion of general issues with a focus on the concrete details of scientific investigations.
Leah Henderson has won several awards and scholarships, and has published in high-profile journals in her field such as Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics, the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Science.
At UCG she will be involved in teaching and developing classes on methodology, and other philosophical courses, and in the Faculty of Philosophy she will offer courses on the philosophy of science.
Both Faculties are very happy to welcome such a distinguished philosopher in our University.
