Working at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) means working with people that are passionate about research. We offer extensive research facilities and an open and supportive working environment in which collaboration among researchers is encouraged. Research staff are actively stimulated and supported to develop their research and teaching skills. Special attention is paid to early career researchers (post docs and starting Tenure Trackers) and their career development and perspectives.
FEB’s research activities are organized by the SOM Research Institute, which also comprises the Graduate School and Applied Research unit. Fundamental scientific research is concentrated in 6 research programmes. The SOM Graduate School offers the Research Master and the PhD programme in economics and business. SOM Applied Research aims to strengthen the link between science and practice. It supports our Centres of Expertise that engage with external stakeholders on specific topics linked to one or more of the research programmes.
FEB stimulates multidisciplinary, theme-based research that addresses the major societal challenges. We have identified a number of signature areas that cut across research programme boundaries, allowing researchers with different backgrounds to work on innovative joint research projects.
The FEB signature areas
- The Dynamics of Global Development and Inequality
- Connecting Innovation and Creativity
- Digital Business Models
- Public Health
- Board Effectiveness
- Collective Resilience
- Markets and Sustainability
According to the recent 'Research review Economics & Business 2008-2014' (2015) of Dutch universities, the quality and scientific relevance of FEB’s research is very good, and its societal relevance is excellent. The review committee ranks us joint first in the Netherlands. It praises the clear quality strategy and exceptionally good management of the SOM Research School, its excellent facilities -which include a laboratory for experimental research and teaching- and its ability to blend high-quality research with societal relevance.
