New CBS & EZK-research shows positive relationship between management quality and productivity
Why do similar companies differ greatly in their productivity? Giving an adequate answer to the question that is important to scientists and policymakers is not easy.
This latest research shows to the Dutch industry that measuring management quality can possibly partly solve this productivity puzzle: higher management quality clearly goes hand in hand with higher productivity. The extent to which innovativeness and international development play a role in the relationship between management quality and productivity is also investigated.
After In the LEAD last year, together with researchers from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairsand Climate (EZK), showed to companies in the Dutch industry that management quality and productivity are strongly related, confirms and deepens the research published yesterday, again together with CBS and commissioned by EZK, this positive relationship between management quality and productivity.
The results of this research are partly the reason for In the LEAD to conduct an intervention study in 2021,in collaboration with the three northern provinces, companies in the northern Netherlands industry and Statistics Netherlands. In this intervention study (managers from industry participate in a management program of the University of Groningen) it will be investigated to what extent management quality can be improved and whether such an improvement also has a positive effect on company performance.
