Jan Willem Bolderdijk nominated for the Het Klokhuis Science Prize
FEB researcher Jan Willem Bolderdijk has been nominated for the science prize awarded by the children’s TV programme Het Klokhuis. Together with nine other researchers at Dutch universities, he will compete for the prize to be awarded on 8 November. The aim of the Klokhuis prize is to introduce a wide and young audience to academic research. A special Het Klokhuis science episode will showcase the winning research.
Jan Willem Bolderdijk – How can you make the environment cool?
We usually know what are the best choices for the environment. Vegetarian food is better than a meal involving meat, and cycling or walking to school is better than going by car. So why isn’t everyone a vegetarian and why do we still use polluting cars? Psychologist Jan Willem Bolderdijk researches how people make environmental choices. People are true herd animals – they always want to do what everyone else is doing. It’s no fun if you are the only one with an environmental conscience. Others might even think you are a know-it-all. We have to ensure that everyone finds environmentally friendly choices normal. But how do you do that? How can you make being green cool?
