Signing collaboration agreement UMCG and FEB at the Conference ‘Quality of Life’ | RUG Centre of Expertise Healthwise | 31 October

Centre of Expertise Healthwise (Health Care Management & Health Economics) of the University of Groningen organises its second annual conference on Friday 31 October 2014. Managers, professionals and researchers who work in the healthcare sector, science and policy world are cordially invited for this meeting. At the conference, with the theme “Quality of Life’, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the Faculty of Medical Sciences will sign a collaboration agreement for carrying out joint research.

UMCG and FEB have combined their expertise in the area of health, economics and business for quite a number of years now, e.g. in the National Care for the Elderly Programme in the northern region of the Netherlands. On 31 October, Prof. dr. Folkert Kuipers (Supervisory Board of the UMCG and Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences ) and Prof. dr. Harry Garretsen (Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business) will officially sign the collaboration agreement at the opening of the Healthwise conference. In addition to joint research, a professor is to be appointed to the joint chair of ‘Health Economics’.

Themes

The main themes of the conference are: E-Health, Nutrition and health, Care chains, Well-being, Public-private collaboration in healthcare, Pilot new medical position ‘Hospital Doctor’, Decentralisation and transition in healthcare, Lean in healthcare and Economic evaluation.


Keynote speakers

At the conference, leading speakers from academia and care practice will give lectures and workshops. The keynote speakers are Prof. dr. Arie Kapteyn and Prof. dr. Diana Delnoij. Prof. Dr. Arie Kapteyn is the international expert in the area of measuring individual well-being. He is the Director of the Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research at the University of Southern California, which he founded in 2012. Prof. dr. Diana Delnoij is Director of the Quality Institute (Kwaliteitsinstituut) of Care Institute the Netherlands and affiliated professor “Transparency in healthcare from the patient perspective” at Tranzo, University of Tilburg.


Science and practice

In several workshops we learn from the experiences of innovative organizations, such as Noorderbreedte, UMCG, Martini Ziekenhuis, NAM, UMCG Ambulancezorg, Hanzehogeschool and DSM Nutritional Products. The academic perspective will be provided by leading researchers,such as professor Manfred Eggersdorfer (DSM & UMCG), dr. Elena Pizzo (University College London), professor Koert van Ittersum, professor Maarten Allers and professor Kees Ahaus (University of Groningen).The conference will be closed with a round-table discussion about “Inspiring dilemmas concerning quality of life and costs”.
