Looking back on a successful opening academic year of FEB & EBF | Prize winners, lectures, pictures online
The official opening ceremony on 5 September meant the festive kick-off of a new academic year and the start of the Careers Company.
After a warm welcome by Dean Harry Garretsen and EBF chairman Matthijs van de Grift, the speakers of the Leadership Panel were introduced by chairman of the day Boudewijn de Bruin, professor in Financial Ethics ("an oxymoron maybe?", he mentioned)
On the theme 'Ethics and the crisis', Jan Sijbrand, executive director at the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) explained the viewpoint of the supervisor, and Gerard van Olphen, CEO of SNS REAAL and alumnus of FEB, gave the viewpoint of a financial institution.

During the break it was time to announce the winners of the FEB awards for best lecturer, best newcomer and best freshman of the year.
Best lecturers
The students of Quest (Quality of Education for Students) presented the nominees, based on results of the course evaluations by students and opinions of the year representation committees.
Best newcomer of the year, nominees:
-Isabel Estrada Vaquero (course: Organizing for Innovation)
-Kirstin Scholten (courses: Strategic supply chain management and Global Supply Chain management)
-Tim Vriend (course: Research and Professional skills for HRM)
WINNER:
Isabel Estrada Vaquero, about who students say: ‘Very good explanation of theory’, ‘The lectures where interesting and interactive’ and ‘Nice academic touch to the course’
Best lecturer of the year, nominees:
-Martijn van der Steen
-Jaap Wieringa
-Viola Angelini
WINNER:
Viola Angelini, about who students say: ‘The personal and detailed feedback on assignments was really helpful’ and ‘Overall a really nice course!’
Best freshman
Vice-dean Janka Stoker took the floor to annouce who was the best first year student in the last academic year. She was also happy to mention that since the 'Binding Study Advice', more first year students manage to finish all the courses within the first year.
The best freshman of all 4 FEB Bachelors:
-BSc Business Studies: MAAIKE GREVINGA
-BSc Economics and Business Economics: OLIVER HERRMANN
-BSc Econometrics and Operations Research: BERT TER BOGT
-BSc International Business: STEN WENNINK
OVERALL WINNER:
Oliver Herrmann, who got an average grade of 9,4 (!)

After the opening ceremony, it was time to celebrate the opening of the Careers Company in the plaza.
