A3. Agile Way of Working

GemGroningen_banner

About the workshop:
Are you looking for agile training? Two young professionals from the local government of Groningen are certified trainers and actual scrum practitioners within their organisation. They will tell you how it is to work for the government of Groningen and highlight the challenges and opportunities (within their field). Furthermore, you will work on a real case study using the agile scrum framework yourself. Are you up for the challenge?

About the organisation:
Society will always continue to change and the city of Groningen has to cope with this as well. The city is a collaboration between citizens, entrepreneurs, companies, institutions, regional partners, government and politics. All these different stakeholders demand a local government that is critical and active. Responding to the ever-changing environment is even more challenging for the local government than it is for commercial organisations. This is due to the fact that the local government plays a key role in society and the political influence is visible in the daily business of the municipality.

About the instructors:
Noortje Akkermans started her career at the local government of Groningen after a master degree in Industrial & Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management . At the HR department, her focus is on the organisational challenges that come with an aging workforce, with a specialisation in implementing agile processes as scrum. Scrum processes enable organisations to adjust smoothly to rapidly-changing requirements and produce a product that meets evolving business goals.

Madelon de Vries started her career as a trainee at the local government of Groningen after finishing her master degree in Change Management . Currently, she is working on different projects in the HR department. Some of those projects have a high strategic level, like organisational development or questioning whether or when to implement different HR tools. Others are more operational, such as putting plans into action, where scrum working helps making plans more productive and usable.

B1. How to Quantify Your Qualities

Monique_banner

About the workshop:
Explore and specify your personal qualities you have developed over time. You will define three qualities that you can use as part of presenting yourself to a future employer or team.

What will you do during this workshop:
Firstly, you will determine three core qualities on the basis of actual examples and experiences. For each person, this will be different. So which are your core qualities, how do you benefit from them and how can you
how can you use them even more to reach your goals? Secondly, we will look at what your pitfalls are and how these can make your behaviour ineffective. After having discovered these, you will explore options on how you might change your behaviour. Finally, you will prepare a very brief presentation of your qualities for a specific context and practice this with fellow students.

About Monique Kroese:
As a trainer and coach of intercultural communication & management skills, Monique aims at creating a positive learning environment for students to find out what they are good at, how they can use their strongly developed skills for more effect and what they want to develop in addition for more effective behaviour in an academic, professional and personal context. She has been contributing to that individual exploration for several years now and still greatly enjoys it, both at the university (FEB for the past 9 years) and in business (7 years of training teams in the public and private sectors, and communication training at the European Central Bank for 3 years).

B2. Work Hard, Play Hard: How to Be Effective, Successful, and Stress-free

NienkeThurlings_banner

About the workshop:
You are a go-getter. Studying can be challenging sometimes, but you know why you are putting in the hours. It will not be long before you start your career. The first few years on the labour market can be tough; finding your way, making long hours and constantly achieving to leave all competition behind. You would like to be the best and experience everything life has to offer. At the same time you want to have fun, feel relaxed and maintain an active social life. What if we tell you that you really can have it all? Register for this unique training that teaches you how to train your mind and body in such a way that you can optimally function in a stressful environment, navigate through social demands and relax instantly when needed. Create a clear mind, enjoy life and be the most successful version of yourself.

About the organisation:
Nienke Traint provides training, coaching and career advice to young professionals. To really be successful, effective and happy in your life you need to combine three forms of wisdom. The wisdom of your heart, your head (or brain) and your body. The heart will tell you where you want to go, the brain tells you how to get there and a healthy and relaxed body makes it possible to achieve that goal. With this vision Nienke Traint provides training and coaching in all areas of career development ranging from discovering your dreams and talents to job interview or work-life balance training.

About the instructor:
Nienke Thurlings has a broad experience in career and work-life balance training. Nienke started out as a social psychologist and after a successful career as an international project manager for a lobby organisation working 60+ hours a week and travelling often, she got a burn-out at age 24. In overcoming this she realised that there was virtually no information available to eager young professionals and students about how to really chase your dreams and not get side-tracked or overly stressed along the way. Nienke decided to break the taboo and start jongburnout.nl . Nienke also further professionalised as a Career Service officer for the Radboud University and currently works as an independent trainer and advisor to several Dutch universities, public and commercial institutions.
