About the workshop:
Effective communication in an international context is not always easy. It can be useful to discover what the underlying reasons are that a German, Chinese or Bulgarian responds the way they do. It can also be interesting to discover why in certain situations you respond the way you do. Michaela: "I’m intrigued by the unrecognised power of the liminal, the space in between things, the period of transition, the socially ambiguous status of those who belong everywhere and nowhere, the realm of pure possibility where novel configurations of ideas and relations may arise. That is the power of the intercultural."

About Hanneke Boode:
After 11 years at AFS (one of the largest ngo’s offering student exchange for more than 15000 students a year) in various functions (trainer, coordinator, chair, international student support) and 5 years as trainer at the European Federation for Intercultural Learning, Hanneke Boode is currently academic advisor and academic coordinator of the English track at the department of European Languages and Cultures at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Groningen. Unicef and the Changing Fundraising Market

Registration is closed!

Unfortunately the registration system Connext is experiencing some difficulties. In case you have trouble logging in and registering, please send an email to careersweek@rug.nl mentioning your S-number and your preferred workshops so we can enroll you personally.

About the workshop:
The fundraising market in the Netherlands is changing, and innovations are necessary. Despite the general willingness of the Dutch population to donate to charity, the recent economic downturn as well as new preferences and values of younger generations make it difficult to simply expand the current member schemes to attract new members aged between 20 and 40. More specifically, due to ongoing individualization and democratization of today’s society, socio-economic factors such as age, gender and education are unlikely to predict an individual’s attitudes and behaviour. Instead, it is important to analyse values and lifestyle choices of potential new members.

Does this sound interesting to you? Join our interactive workshop to learn more!

About Unicef:
UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency working globally for the rights of every child. Child rights begin with safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflict and traverse the life cycle: pre-natal care for healthy births, clean water and sanitation, health care and education.

UNICEF has spent nearly 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. Working with and for children through adolescence and into adulthood requires a global presence whose goal is to produce results and monitor their effects. UNICEF also lobbies and partners with leaders, thinkers and policy makers to help all children realize their rights—especially the most disadvantaged.

About the instructors:
Iris: After my Master International Economics at the FEB I participated in the Corporate Master Programme. Within this programme I started a traineeship at the fundraising department of UNICEF NL. Additionally we received several trainings at the university to support the process of entering the labour market.
After the traineeship UNICEF offered me a job as marketeer which I gladly took. The fundraising department focuses on different ways of fundraising and engaging people of all ages to the work of UNICEF. During my 6 month’s traineeship I had the opportunity to focus on new innovative projects. These projects included both fundraising and activation of UNICEF supporters. Within my job I have a special focus on stimulating children and youngsters to participate in the discussion about their rights trough education on this subject. Innovations are necessary in this dynamic market. This makes our work challenging but even more interesting!

Johanna: I am the team manager of acquisition and activation within the fundraising department, responsible for activating supporters for our cause and our brand -  including education and participation of children and youngsters -  and of acquisition of new donors for our programmes worldwide. We are a team of 13 marketeers and communication officers who develop and set out campaigns in different channels (telemarketing, online, street marketing, events, tv programmes).

About The Royal Netherlands Army:
The Royal Netherlands Army is the land forces element of the military of the Netherlands.
The Royal Netherlands Army was raised on 9 January 1814 however, its origins date back to 1572, when the so-called ‘Staatse Leger’ was raised. Therefore, the Netherlands has one of the oldest standing armies in the world, dating back to the 16th century. It fought during the Napoleonic Wars, World War II, the Indonesian War of Independence, Korean War, and served with NATO on the Cold War frontiers in Germany from the 1950s to the 1990s.
Since 1990, the army has deployed to the Iraq War from 2003 and the War in Afghanistan (2001-present), as well as a number of United Nations peacekeeping deployments, notably with UNIFIL in Lebanon, and UNPROFOR in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992.

Infantry
Infantry is the general branch of an army that engages in military combat on foot. As the troops who engage with the enemy in close-ranged combat, infantry units bear the largest brunt of warfare. Historically, as the oldest branch of the combat arms, the infantry are the tip of the spear of a modern army, and continually undergo training that is typically more physically stressful and psychologically demanding than that of any other branch of the combat arms.
Infantry can enter and maneuver in terrain that is inaccessible to military vehicles and employ crew-served infantry weapons that provide greater and more sustained firepower. The transport and delivery techniques of modern infantrymen to engage in battle include marching, mechanised transport, airborne by parachute or by air assault from helicopter and amphibious landing from the sea.

About Nienke Traint:
Nienke Traint provides training, coaching and career advice to young professionals. To really be successful, effective and happy in your life you need to combine three forms of wisdom. The wisdom of your heart, your head (or brain) and your body. The heart will tell you where you want to go, the brain tells you how to get there and a healthy and relaxed body makes it possible to achieve that goal.
With this vision Nienke Traint provides training and coaching in all areas of career development ranging from discovering your dreams and talents to job interview or work-life balance training.

About the instructor:
Nienke Thurlings has a broad experience in career and work-life balance training. Nienke started out as a social psychologist, learning about the dynamics of leadership, marketing and interpersonal relationships, to understand ‘why people do what they do’. After a successful career as an international project manager for a lobby organization working 60+ hours a week and travelling often she got a burn-out at age 24. In overcoming this she realized that there was virtually no information available to eager young professionals and students about how to really chase your dreams and not get side-tracked or overly stressed along the way. Nienke decided to break the taboo and startwww.jongburnout.nl. Nienke also further professionalized as a Career Service officer for the Radboud University and currently works as an independent trainer and advisor to several Dutch universities, public and commercial institutions.
