"That's Typically Me": How to Quantify Your Qualities for Professional Purposes

Registration is closed!

Unfortunately the registration system Connext is experiencing some difficulties. In case you have trouble logging in and registering, please send an email to careersweek@rug.nl mentioning your S-number and your preferred workshops so we can enroll you personally.

About the workshop:
You will explore and specify personal qualities that you have developed over time. You will define three qualities that you can use as part of presenting yourself to a prospective employer or a new team.

What will you do during this workshop:
1.   Firstly, you will determine three core qualities on the basis of actual examples. These qualities are part of your personal luggage. Their labels are generic, for example perseverance, patience, caring, analytical. For each person, their manifestation can be different. So which are your core qualities, how do you benefit from them and how can you use them even more to reach your goals? That is what you will examine and make specific on the basis of your experiences.
2.   Secondly we will look at possible pitfalls: perseverance may turn into stubbornness in certain situations. What are your pitfalls and how do they make your behaviour ineffective? When you have found answers, you will explore options for alternative behaviour.
3.   Finally, you will prepare a very brief presentation of your qualities for a specific context and practice with fellow students

About Monique Kroese:

As a trainer and coach of soft skills (but hard to  do) I create a positive learning environment for students to find out what they are good at, how they can use their strongly developed skills for more effect and what they want to develop in addition for more effective behaviour in an academic, professional and personal context. I believe that we can use our unique combination of personality, skills, competencies, experiences and attitude to achieve goals. And in the context of team work, job interviews or networking, a goal can be to develop a collaborative atmosphere where others want to listen to us and benefit from our expertise. That takes genuine curiosity about the other person. It takes listening and delaying judgement. It takes an open mind and a reflective attitude.  It also takes self-knowledge and courage. As a trainer and coach I greatly enjoy contributing to that individual exploration both at the university (FEB for the past 8 years) and in business (7 years of training teams in the public and private sectors, and communication training at the ECB for the past 3 years).
