  • Selective two-year research Master's programme with a specialization in the field of Oncology, Infection and Immunity, Medical Neurosciences and neurological diseases, Medical nutrition and Metabolic Diseases, Medical System Biology and Bioinformatics, or Drug Innovation.

Students with a Biology or Chemistry related degree who want to use biomolecular sciences to solve fundamental medical questions or develop biobased industrial applications.

Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences

What makes this programme unique?

  • This degree  ranges from the role of molecules to the development of computational algorithms to understand brain and behavior. Students receive in depth training in one of the subfields.
  • Intense and collaborative programme. During most courses you will collaborate in small groups (circa 10). Meaning: Rapidly get to know the skills of their fellow students and intense interactions with lecturers.
  • Apart from neuroscientific knowledge, training is provided on mportant scientific skills as giving scientific presentations, setting up scientific posters, and -most importantly- writing grant proposals. About half of the program is devoted to 2 research projects, at least one of them to be carried out at the University of Groningen. Commonly the second project is abroad, to get to learn new techniques and scientific approaches, to meet other cultures, and to extend the scientific network.
  • Students have access to modern and expensive techniques (fMRI,  PET, CT, confocal scanning microscopes, various modern facilities for human and animal research).
  • About 80% of the graduates obtain a Ph.D. position within 1 year of the diploma.

Students who would like to specialize in Cognitive Neuroscience and Cognitive Modelling, Molecular and Clinical Neuroscience or Animal and Human Behavioural Neurosciences. Who would like to participate in successful research groups to conduct their own research.
