Party Picks:

Hopefully, you’ve had a great start to 2019! Most students are returning back to Groningen this week with a heap of books and even more new year’s resolutions after a few weeks of holidays. To start off 2019 on a positive note, we’ve compiled a list of some happenings this weekend ranging from immersive theater performances to events where you can work on your new you. Not feeling 2019 quite yet and in need of some extra new year’s celebrations? No worries, we even have that covered for you!

Events:

ESN International Dinner: Spanish

If you have ever been to Spain, you know that besides sunshine, sangria and beaches the country also has to offer a great cuisine. Be it tapas, paellas or empanadas, the Spanish have their food figured out. This weekend ESN is once again hosting an International dinner, where you will have the opportunity to relive the taste of your last vacaciones and experience some culinary sunshine.

Friends of Mine: Prepare to be Board/Dark Secrets

Improv comedy group Stranger Things Have Happened is starting off the new year with an immersive theater experience in USVA this weekend. Building upon some older classics while also introducing a new show concept, this promises to be an interesting night for both regulars and newcomers of improv theater. For the chatty ones among us be prepared though, as the audience will be expected to keep some dark secrets from one another which could prove to be difficult for some.

Locks Pop Up Art Tour

Bas Steens, under the alias Locks, is holding his first solo art exposition. Using a unique style, his artwork uses bright and popping colours which has resulted in quite some attention by the media and even the hiphop scene. The Locks Pop Up Art Tour gives you the opportunity to pretend you’re cultured and artsy, or just to create more social media material and up your Instagram game.

 Cross-training - All Levels!

New year, new me! And what better way is there to celebrate a new me than by burning some of those extra calories amassed over the Christmas holidays? This Cross-training session promises to accommodate all level skills, from professional Netflix binge watcher to people who actually do sports throughout the entire year and not only in the first three weeks of January.

Georgian Wine-tasting/New Year

Fun Fact: Georgians celebrate 2 New Years. One on the 31st December and one 2 weeks later, on the 14th of January which follows an older Georgian Orthodox church tradition. If you still use the wrong year when writing dates or still just feel kind of 2018, then the Georgian wine-tasting/New Year event gives you the opportunity to celebrate a 2nd New Year, taste some free Georgian wine and mingle with the Georgian Youth Ambassador to the Netherlands! Bonus: this also gives you a clean slate regarding your new year’s resolutions because everyone deserves a second start, right?
