#TheCityIsOurCampus: The weekend of 1 to 3 December in Groningen
|Date:||30 November 2017|
Nothing to do this weekend? We’ve rounded up the events in Groningen for the upcoming weekend (and some for next week).
World Press Photo
The World Press Photo Exhibition 2017 is a global exhibition presenting the best visual journalism (and the stories behind it) of the past year. You can attend the exhibition until December 10th at the Synagogue in Groningen. The gallery includes last year's winning photo of the assassination of the Russian ambassador and other intriguing photo’s. Guided tours that are held every day.
USVA Jam Sessions
Looking to jam with other students? After the big success of their last jam session, the USVA organizes a new jam session on December 4th. Entry is free, a beamer with chords and lyrics is provided; all you need to bring is your own instrument.
Test your knowledge at a Pub Quiz
Here are the three quiz nights we’re most excited for next week:
- USVA Winter Wonderland: On December 5th - while Sinterklaas is busy leaving presents for Dutch families by the fireplace - the USVA are throwing a Winter Wonderland quiz night, including a live band.
- Pathe Cinema film quiz: Every first monday of the month, Pathé organizes their very own film quiz. Teams from two to four persons can sign-up at the cinema anytime before the quiz starts at 20:00, tickets are €2.50
- Café de Toeter: Test your knowledge about basically anything and everything at Café de Toeter. On December 6th, the café celebrates its 30th anniversary and organizes a special quiz to celebrate
Stranger Things Have Happened
If you want to sit back with a drink and laugh at something other than the memes your friends tag you in on Facebook, then check out a Stranger Things Have Happened show this week. STHH are an English improvised comedy group from Groningen. They play a number of funny improv games with suggestions from the audience. They have their weekly free ‘comedy jam’ on Monday at 21:00 at Pacific Aussie Pub (here you can even join on stage if you volunteer); and they have their final show of the year at de Silo, for €6,50 per ticket.
Vintage Kilo Sale
Black Friday & Cyber Monday have come and gone, but Groningen offers good deals all year round. After all, if there is one thing you can rely on the Dutch for, it's a good sale. On Saturday & Sunday afternoon at the A Kerkhof the Vintage Kilo Sale will take place. It is a very simple concept: you pay per kilo of clothing. Make sure you remember that you have to carry the clothes home as well though...
Party plans & party picks
LOFT at Vera is a 100% vinyl club night with a wide variety of music styles. The line-up includes Radikal Rüpert, Pushin Wood, Black Dynamite and Duke Hugh. Tickets are sold at the door, so no need to reserve online.
Get in contact with your bizarre side at Club Bizarre at Oost. Leave the stress of daily life at the door, dress up as crazy as you want and enjoy the line-up including “The Freakshow” and “Het Rariteitenkabinet”. The party starts at midnight on December 2nd.
Fans of soul, funk, hiphop and many other music styles can eat their heart out at the Soulcity End of the Year Party in Groningen. Soulcity's line-up has something for everyone: from Michael Jackson to James Brown to Justin Timberlake. Soulcity starts December 2nd at 21:00.
An evening full of hard dance and hardstyle with an impressive line-up (including Radical Redemption and D-Sturb) is coming to Groningen for the third time. Organized on old factory grounds, Rawfare gets going on December 2nd.
Alright, hope you guys have a great weekend. Did we miss any events or do you have tips for next week? Leave a comment to let us know.
