Beforehand:
On 24 augustus 2022 the MR course is divided into two separate courses. This has consequences for the scheduled courses in 2023.

Final objectives

The training meets the final objectives for the Supervisory Radiation Protection Employee in case of measurement and control applications (MR), as meant in Annex 5.2, Section I.1 and I.2 of the Regulation on Basic Safety Standards Radiation Protection.

Target group

The course provides the required training for Radiation Protection Officer for measurement and control applications either with X-ray equipment and Accelerators (RPO MR-T) or with sealed radioactive sources (RPO MR-B).

This course is also suitable as an appropriate instruction for those who work with these measurement and control applications.

The MR-B course is in principle always combined with the RPO DRM-D course.

The MR-T course will usually be given separately.

Learning objectives

After successful completion, the RPO MR-T/B has the following skills:

  1. He supervises the application for which he is responsible, he enforces the relevant laws and regulations in the field of ionizing radiation, and he gives advice to the employees.
  2. He contributes to an adequate handling of an unintended event or incident.
  3. He actively improves his own expertise through further training, and that of others for whom he is responsible by providing information and instructions.
  4. He possesses knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences relating to measurement and control applications.
Course load

The course load for this program strongly depends on your prior education and ranges roughly from 40 to 100 hours including hours of study.

Course material

The course material is contained in the books Health physics for radiation protection officers - dispersible radioactive materials - level D and sealed radioactive sources by Frits Pleiter and Hielke Freerk Boersma and Health physics for radiation protection officers - devices and accelerators by Frits Pleiter, Hielke Freerk Boersma and Age Froma. The material is completed with a practical training manual edited by Arjo Bunskoeke.

Exam

At the end of the course, there will be an exam consisting of 30 (MR-T) or 40 (MR-B) multiple-choice questions with each four possible answers, and one or more open questions. The multiple-choice questions are rewarded with a maximum of 40 points. For the open questions one may obtain a maximum of 10 points. The exam is passed if 30 out of the 50 available points have been obtained. You must bring a simple calculator to the exam.
