Koning, prof. dr. Ruud
Ruud Koning is bijzonder hoogleraar Sporteconomie vanwege het W.J.H. Mulier Instituut (centrum voor sociaal-wetenschappelijk sportonderzoek). Hij studeerde in 1988 cum laude af in de Econometrie in Groningen en promoveerde er in 1995 op het proefschrift 'Essays on applied microeconometrics'. Sindsdien is hij werkzaam geweest als Academie-onderzoeker en verbleef hij onder meer aan de Brown University in de VS. Al lange tijd verricht hij onderzoek op het snijvlak van economie, statistiek en sport, waarbij zijn aandacht onder andere uitgaat naar het meten en vaststellen van competitief evenwicht in verschillende sporten, naar marktmechanismen in het betaald voetbal (voor het Ministerie van Economische Zaken), en naar de informatie die besloten ligt in prijzen op de markten voor weddenschappen. Hij heeft uitgebreide ervaring met voorspellingsmodellen waarmee grootschalige voetbaltoernooien geanalyseerd kunnen worden. De jacht op doping moet blijven, maar het hoort ook bij de sport, aldus Koning in een bijdrage aan de FEBlogs. Aanbod schept vraag, en een sporter doet alles om competitievoordeel te halen.
Begin september organiseert Koning een groot internationaal congres over sporteconomie.
