As our classrooms become increasingly global, our learning outcomes should also reflect the interests and needs of our diverse student population and demands of their future, often international careers. In this course, we’ll focus specifically on International Learning Outcomes (ILO) and what this means for your course or program.

We’ll ask you to read some background material before the start of this course, and reflect on and discuss your particular teaching situation and course objectives.

Some of the questions we ask are:

  • How and why is internationalisation relevant for your course or programme?
  • To what extent are your course or programme's objectives explicitly global or intercultural?
  • How can you adjust your current learning outcomes so that they become international learning outcomes? What are some tips and tricks for writing ILOs?
  • What impact does adjusting your learning outcomes have on teaching and learning?
  • How can you assess global or intercultural competencies?

Learning outcomes

After this course you will be able to:

  • Interpret and apply the university's International Framework
  • Formulate International Learning Outcomes for your course or programme
  • Integrate intercultural competencies in your course design and instructional methods.
