Meet our staff
Dean of University College Fryslân
My name is Andrej Zwitter and I am a NGIZ Professor of International Relations and also Dean of the University College Fryslân. I am also a senior fellow at Canterbury Christ Church University. My research foci include Big Data ethics, state of emergency politics, as well as law and politics of humanitarian action. I also have a PhD in International Law and Legal Philosophy. I am passionate about understanding how modern technology affects society and how it can contribute to solving global challenges.
I like reading sci-fi and fantasy books. To anyone who is interested in international politics and realism I can recommend The Game of Thrones and the Foundation series.
Professor of Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism
I am Dr. Elena Cavagnaro, I am a professor of sustainability in hospitality and tourism at Stenden University of Applied Sciences and also visiting professor at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom and the University of Macerata and Bergamo in Italy. I consulted several organizations in sectors such as hospitality, retail and health care on sustainability strategy and implementation.
My research focuses on issues that run across and connect the social, organizational and individual layer of sustainability because of my understanding of sustainability as a multi-dimensional and multi-layered concept. I also co-authored the bestseller ‘Three levels of Sustainability’ with G. Curiel.
In my spare time I like to hike. My husband and I also tend a vegetable garden. This is an activity I can recommend to all: it is a really healthy exercise yielding fresh, tasty and very local vegetables!
Professor of Global and Local Governance
My name is Caspar van den Berg and I am the professor of Global and Local Governance at the Campus Fryslân. My research interest goes out to all things political and governance related, from the international and EU level, to the national, regional and local level. In particular, I focus on how developments on one level have an impact on the organization, effectiveness and legitimacy of governance at another level. My main research projects currently are on the politicization of senior civil servants; regionalization of governance; the role of external consultants in the policy process; and political-administrative relations in comparative perspective. Before I joined Campus Fryslân, I worked at Leiden University, Princeton University and Tallinn University of Technology.
When I’m not working, you’re likely to find me spending time with my family outdoors, travelling, or reading up on architecture and European history.
I am dr. Indira van der Zande and I am the programme manager of the GRL degree. I am primarily responsible for the overall quality of the curriculum and the academic staff teaching the courses. I had a fantastic University College experience during my own undergraduate studies and I truly believe that interdisciplinary and small-scale education should be the standard for all ambitious students.
I enjoy participating in social activities such as pub quizzes and community service projects, and I look forward to sharing these interests with our growing academic community in Leeuwarden.
¡Hola! My name is Amaranta Luna and I originally come from sunny Mexico. I have an educational background in International Relations, International Communication and Humanitarian Action with a professional focus on education. I joined Campus Fryslân because of its concept of educating the next Global Citizen generation where I can provide my expertise on the benefits of internationalisation for higher education.
On a personal note, I cannot start my morning without music and a cup of black coffee! Any DIY project fascinates me, in the last year I got into sewing my own clothes (still learning!) and designing an urban garden on my balcony.
If you want to have a coffee with me to discuss music, DIY projects or the importance of internationalisation for higher education, come and find me at Campus Fryslân!
Chief Data Scientist of the Data Research Centre
I am Daniel and I work as chief data scientist of the Data Research Centre. I am originally from Brazil, where I obtained my bachelor and master degrees in Computer Science at the University of São Paulo. I am currently also wrapping up my PhD, during which I have sharpened my skills as a data scientist while researching software architecture solutions to improve software quality.
Far from the office, I enjoy some physical activities to relieve my stress, mostly climbing or going to the gym. Netflix and cinema are always welcome, too!
