Telephone fundraising campaign for the Junior Scientific Masterclass

09 April 2018

On Monday, April 9th, the annual telephone fundraising campaign of the Ubbo Emmius Fund (UEF) will start for the Junior Scientific Masterclass (JSM). In health care, there is a demand for doctor-researchers: doctors who combine patient care with clinical scientific research and thereby bridge the gap between practice and research. Therefore, the University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen established the JSM in 1999. In the JSM program, students are offered additional courses and research places in addition to their regular education program. They can obtain an honors degree for research within the bachelors program and / or promote during an internship. At the end of this program, students will be able to obtain their doctor degree and promote at the same day.

Every year, a number of students receive a UEF-JSM Talent Grant. With this scholarship they can fund the (additional) costs of their research. For the UEF-JSM Talent Grants, the JSM depends on contributions from individuals, companies and institutions. Each year, the UEF collects funds, especially among alumni, for the JSM. The goal for this year is to raise € 20,000, so that two to three students can receive a UEF-JSM Talent Grant. Since the collaboration with the UEF, a total of € 335.894,- has been raised, and 41 students have received a scholarship!
