Most sustainable building at Zernike Campus
If you are a frequent visitor of the Zernike Campus, you probably have noticed the large construction site for another new building. This new building will house the Energy Academy Europe. Because this organization is the platform for education and research concerning energy, this building should be as sustainable as possible. And it will be! It will even be the most sustainable education building of the Netherlands. To realize this ambitious goal, the building must have a "Outstanding" BREEAM-rating. BREEAM is an environmental assessment method for buildings that is used all over the world. To get this "Outstanding" rating, your building must score more than 85% on the assessment. The "usual" sustainable solution won't cut it and you really have to be really progressive. Conditions for this rating are: the Energy Performance Ratio must be higher than 0.60, the use of low or zero carbon technologies, comprehensive energy monitoring and much more.
