Meetings and consultations

The University Council (UR) consults with the Supervisory Board (RvT) at least twice a year, meets with the Board of the University (CvB) almost monthly, and has observers on the University Committees for Academic Practice (UCW) and Education (UCO). Deliberation and decision-making at the meetings take place according to the Rules of Order, and are usually prepared in the standing committees on Education & Research, Governance, and Finance. Until 2011 the UR-chairperson was invited to attend the board meetings, since then only the student adviser does so. Every quarter, at the Consultation of Councils, mutual consultations with members of the Faculty and Services Councils, and Local Consultative Committee take place, and every half year a UR delegation participates in the meetings of the National Consultation University Participation (LOVUM). In addition, regularly technical consultations with divisions of the University Services, informative armchair meetings with the rector and / or other parties, and working visits (e.g. to AMD, ACLO, and UB) are organized. Finally, in anticipation of faculty elections, the UR has served as representative body of University College Groningen (UCG) and Campus Fryslân (CF).

Duty to inform

In reasonableness and fairness, the CvB provides the UR in writing, unsolicited, in time with all information that it may need for the fulfillment of its duties and, solicited, within three months, all information that it deems necessary for the fulfillment of its task. In turn, the UR reports in writing on its activities and ensures that those involved and interested parties are able to take note of its agenda, reports, and decisions. The CvB regularly consults with the chairperson of the UR so that decent progress in decision-making is ensured as far as possible.
