On 16 June Pieter Nanninga will be awarded a PhD for his study of jihadism and suicide attacks. In his thesis, Nanninga describes why suicide attacks play such an important role in the jihadi movement, and in al-Qaeda in particular. The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
