Paul van Geert

Paul van Geert is hoogleraar ontwikkelingspsychologie. In zijn onderzoek richt hij zich op longitudinaal onderzoek naar de kinderjaren, in het bijzonder op cognitieve veranderingen, taal en socio-cognitieve ontwikkelingen. Hij probeert verscheidene aspecten van de ontwikkeling met de chaostheorie te voorspellen en te verklaren.

Zijn huidige onderzoek concentreert zich op talent en talentontwikkeling bij jonge kinderen, waarbij talent niet in de eerste plaats wordt gezien als een reeds aanwezige begaafdheid, maar als iets dat kan ontstaan als de juiste klik tussen kind en omgeving tot stand kan worden gebracht. Hij past dit bijvoorbeeld toe op het ontluiken van talent voor wetenschap en techniek bij jonge kinderen.

Van Geert begon zijn carrière in zijn vaderland België waar hij aan de universiteit van Gent psychologie en educatiewetenschappen studeerde. In 1975 is hij gepromoveerd in de ontwikkelingspsychologie op het onderwerp taalontwikkeling. Sinds 1976 is hij werkzaam aan de RUG.
