Vols, prof. mr. dr. Michel
Michel Vols is hoogleraar Openbare-orderecht aan de Faculteit Rechtsgeleerdheid en gespecialiseerd in woonoverlast. Vols studeerde aan de faculteiten Rechtsgeleerdheid en Wijsbegeerte van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Hij promoveerde in 2013 op zijn onderzoek 'Woonoverlast en het recht op privéleven. De aanpak van overlastveroorzakers in Nederland, Engeland, Wales en België'.
Vols is werkzaam bij het aan de RUG gelieerde Centrum voor Openbare Orde en Veiligheid als onderzoeker op het gebied van openbare-orderecht. Hij was 'visiting scholar' aan universiteiten in Gent, Bristol, Puerto Rico en Kaapstad en oprichter van het International Research Network on Law and Anti-social behaviour. Daarnaast verrichte hij voor het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken onderzoek naar de aanpak van woonoverlast en geeft hij trainingen over de aanpak van woonoverlast, verloedering en huisjesmelkers voor het Centrum voor Criminaliteitspreventie en Veiligheid.

Research Minute
Mede dankzij het ontvangen van het Nicolaas Muleriusstipendium voor zijn onderzoek in 2016 kon Vols de website overlastadvies.nl lanceren in 2019. Met de site kunnen burgers die overlast van hun buren hebben een gratis gepersonaliseerd advies ontvangen. In 2020 ontving hij een Europese ERC Starting Grant ter waarde van anderhalf miljoen euro. Daarmee onderzoekt hij in hoeverre nationaal, internationaal en mensenrechten, bescherming bieden tegen een impactvolle maatregel als een huisuitzetting.
