US presidential elections: increase in anti-Latino racism

Relations between Mexico and the US, the border between both countries, and the immigration of Mexicans and Central Americans to the US are paid a lot of attention nowadays. The US presidential candidate Donald Trump has made some very damaging remarks in his campaign. Anne M. Martínez is a specialist on relations between the US and Mexico. She has noticed a rise in hate crimes and racism against Latinos in the US, regardless of whether they have lived in the US for generations, are new legally documented immigrants, or are undocumented.

The ideas of Trump, who is supported by large numbers of American voters, according to polls, seem to be behind this. Social media make it easy for people to act out and send incorrect and hateful messages about other groups. Martínez considers the situation in the US disturbing.
