This thesis has focused on developing new radiopharmaceuticals (tracers) based on small peptides (bombesin) for imaging prostate cancer. We designed and successfully prepared six tracers labelled with a variety of radionuclides commonly used in nuclear imaging. The performance of all tracers has been evaluated in prostate cancer cell cultures and in tumor bearing mice. One of the tracers has been used in a clinical trial for imaging prostate cancer. The latest trends of bombesin radiotracer development has been reviewed in this thesis as well. Conclusions and suggestions on how to improve the behavior of bombesin radiotracer are also discussed.
