Interview with Nobel Prizewinner Ben Feringa during the Noorderlicht International Photography Festival

When:Mo 06-11-2017 at 20:00
Where:Noorderlicht photography gallery, Akerkhof 12, Groningen

On Monday 6 November, Nobel Prizewinner Prof. Ben Feringa, professor of organic chemistry at the University of Groningen, will be interviewed by Prof. Vincent Icke, professor of theoretical astrophysics at the University of Leiden and professor by special appointment in cosmology at the University of Amsterdam. Icke and Feringa will discuss how science is perceived, the theme of the Noorderlicht International Photography Festival. Feringa is regarded as one of the most creative chemistry geniuses in the world.

In 2016, Feringa won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for research on molecular nanomotors, together with Jean-Pierre Sauvage and Sir Fraser Stoddart. The nanomachines and switches are actually special molecules created by the researchers in test tubes. They move when exposed to special light and behave like miniature motors. Feringa believes that universities should be playgrounds where scientists can give free rein to their curiosity. A scientific symposium on the research will be held at De Oosterpoort and attended by the three Nobel laureates to mark the end of the Noorderlicht International Photography Festival.
