“As a teacher, I enjoyed the academic environment of the summer school as well as of the university. It was a unique attempt, which brought together a diverse group of students and teachers from different parts of the world to discuss the transformations that Indian society has been experiencing since the last few decades. The active participation and critical questions from the students helped us rethink many of the commonly assumed notions about religion and culture in India. The summer school discussed various theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of Indian economy, polity, society and culture. The students’ conference offered us an opportunity to listen to the excellent research works of the students. For both students and teachers, this summer school provided an intellectual platform to critically engage with the developments in India and also build long-term scholarly networks. It was also a happy coincidence that the 400 th birthday of the University of Groningen occurred during the summer school. We enjoyed the celebration and witnessed a glimpse of the proud history of the university. The city is also very beautiful and vibrant with a large young student population. It provides a perfectly conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. I look forward to further academic engagement and hope to return to Groningen in future”.
