Field/Discipline
Focussing on action-perception learning and development from a combined perspective of Ecological Psychology and dynamical systems theory. Using Uncontrolled Manifold analyses and multifractal analyses to asses stability, variability, and interaction dynamics of the action-perception system. Studies exploratory processes to determine how new behaviors emerge and are stabilized during developmentand and learning. Uses a task perspective to develop serious games to train upper limb prosthetic use.

Keywords: Perception-Action, Motor Control, Motor Development, Motor Learning, Rehabilitation Training, Upper Limb Prosthetics, Tool Use, Motor Variability, Reaching, Grasping, Upper-Limb Control, Muscle Synergies

I study lifespan changes in personality and subjective wellbeing ("happiness") and their link with affect/emotion/mood dynamics and the environment in which one lives and grows (e.g., our social network, daily activities, adverse events, culture) at the University of Groningen in the Department of Psychology and in the Interdisciplinary Center Psychopathology and Emotion regulation (www.ICPE.NL). See google.scholar or   researchgate  for details.

animal-assisted therapy and interventions, micro-developmental research, observational research, child-adult interactions, child-animal interactions, time-serial coding and analysis, dynamic systems theory, cross-recurrence quantification analysis, autism spectrum disorders, down syndrome, developmental disabilities.

Currently working on Veni 2018 grant project: (How) Does animal assisted therapy work?  Animal-assisted therapy is gaining popularity, but there is no conclusive evidence for its effect. This study investigates the effect of dog-assisted therapy for children with Down Syndrome and Autism, and looks for a possible mechanism to explain this effect: Increased synchronization between the movements of child and therapy dog.
