The relevance of transition processes and their potentials in fostering and driving innovation at the urban scale is at the core of Emma's research. Her focus is on how system innovation can shift current development pathways towards sustainability. She strongly believes that the interplay between citizens, public and private stakeholders as well as knowledge institutes can have a crucial role in these processes. Also, she thinks that design can play a strong enabling role in innovation processes.
