Assistant Professor (UD) Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology (221718)

Job description

The Department of Psychology invites applicants for a (permanent) position as assistant professor at the department of Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology. Faculty members are expected to spend their time on teaching and on research. The candidate will work in the Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology group. This group contributes to the Research Master track ‘Mental Health: Perspectives from Neuro- and Clinical Psychology’ of the Behavioural and Social Sciences, the Bachelor's of Psychology, and the Master's programmes Klinische Psychologie, Clinical Psychology, and Clinical Forensic Psychology and Victimology. In addition, the group contributes to the post-academic clinical psychology programmes (GZ and KP). Research is embedded in the Dutch-Flemish research school Experimental Psychopathology (http://www.epp-research.nl)

Part of the research concentrates on the development and evaluation of theory-derived interventions, including programs aimed at preventing the onset and recurrence of mental disorders in high-risk populations. Another part of the research focusses on the causal understanding of the development, persistence, and recurrence of mental disorders. Using a transdiagnostic and interdisciplinary approach, the current emphasis is on cognitive-motivational processes and emotion (dys)regulation in a variety of disorders, including anxiety disorders, eating disorders, trauma-related disorders, grief, depression, dissociative identity disorders, sleep-related problems, substance misuse, and sexual disorders.

The Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology group participates in several large longitudinal projects such as the Netherlands Study on Depression and Anxiety. It also has numerous research collaborations with clinical sites such as the in- and outpatient clinic GGZ-Drenthe (e.g., forensic section), Lentis, VNN, and the University Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Accare (e.g., anxiety and mood disorders section, eating disorders section).

The candidate is expected to (further) develop an internationally competitive line of research in a relevant field. In addition, the candidate will teach in the Dutch and English language Bachelor's and Master's programmes.

More specifically the tasks include:

  • initiating, conducting, and supervising clinically relevant scientific research
  • acquiring research funding
  • teaching and course development within the domains of Clinical Psychology and Clinical Forensic Psychology and Victimology
  • disseminating scientific knowledge
  • service at group, department, and faculty level.

Qualifications

• university graduate
• PhD in a relevant research domain
• excellent publication record in international journals
• experience and interest in teaching (as also indicated by a relevant teaching qualification)
• good command of the Dutch language
• good command of the English language
• meets the requirements for becoming a senior member of the Dutch-Flemish Research Shool Experimental Psychopathology
• ability to attract funding (e.g., ZonMw; NWO; ERC)
• therapeutic experience in a clinical setting
• a clinical registration (e.g., as a cognitive behavioural therapist or as a health care psychologist) as well as current or aspired connections to mental health services would be very welcome
• experience in and affinity with the forensic field would be welcome
• excellent social and communicative skills and ability to work in groups
• important competences are conceptual capacity, environment orientation, presenting and result orientation.

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3,807 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 5,922 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position
• excluding 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus, participation in a pension scheme for employees and excellent secondary benefits. We offer 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a full-time employment
• an appointment on a temporary basis for one year, with an outlook to a permanent contract.

Depending on the candidate's qualifications and performance, the candidate may be admitted to the tenure track.
