What is the value of badges for our educational community?
|When:||Th 23-06-2022 15:00 - 16:30|
In this session, we explore the UG’s current pilot projects as well as consider what University of Florida (UF) has done with their badges program. A (digital) badge is a way of showing achievement in a small unit of learning. As the term suggests, this is a visual documentation of competences and skills obtained from short courses, workshops and other educational activities.
The goal is to generate ideas for a badge program for professional development of teachers. In this session we will explore what other universities have done with their badges and how they designed the programs and point systems to illustrate teacher’s ongoing learning activities. We will explore the following questions: But what else could one do with badges? Are there any prospects about the use of badges for professional development? If so, how might that work?
A panel, composed by internal and external experts, will discuss the possible use of badges for professionalization at UG. The discussion will be about the pilots that are currently being conducted (including the Educational Festival Badges Pilot) and about an example of the University of Florida, a school that is already using badges for professional development of staff and to strengthen their educational programmes, via a cross-campus collaboration.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the generation of ideas regarding the use of badges at UG and to ask questions about how the already established programme at UF is working. Within the context of higher education, the University of Groningen is one of the pioneering instructions that are currently initiating pilots to investigate the use of badges for professional learning development and education innovation.
