Faculty of Arts elections, September 2021

Elections were held in May 2021 for the consultative participation bodies of the University of Groningen. After the announcement of the results, objections were submitted regarding the elections for the staff section of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Arts. In response to the objections, the Board of the University decided that the elections for the staff section of this Faculty Council must be held again, with an amended electoral register. In reaching this decision, the Board of the University adopted the advice issued by the Disputes Committee regarding the objections.

As a result, the Central Electoral Committee invites the eligible staff members of the Faculty of Arts to once again visit the digital ballot box in September to cast their votes.

Staff members who were employed by the Faculty of Arts on 1 March and who have the right to vote in accordance with the Electoral Regulations have been included in the new electoral register. They will receive an invitation to vote in the period from 13 to 15 September 2021. Votes may be cast for the candidates who participated in the elections in May. It is not possible to participate in this re-election as a new candidate.

Why vote?

The importance of the consultative participation bodies is great. By voting, you exercise influence in many areas within the University of Groningen. At the faculty level, the topics discussed during meetings include the faculty budget, the faculty regulations, the Teaching and Examination Regulations (OER) and various educational matters.

Take a look at the webpage of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Arts here.

Staff participation

Half of the University Council and the faculty councils consist of staff members, and the other half of students. The members of the University Council and the faculty councils are elected by and from the ranks to which they belong: staff or students of the University of Groningen. The employee councils consist only of staff members. Staff participation ensures that better decisions are reached, which have broader support. In short: voting is participating, and participating is voting! More information about staff participation can be found here.
