Dr H.J. Woerdenbag - Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Herman Woerdenbag is a Lecturer of Pharmacy who also applies his knowledge outside the University of Groningen: he was a visiting lecturer at the Universitas Surabaya (Indonesia) as well as coordinator of a Nuffic project in Vietnam between 2007 and 2012. He is also involved in the compilation of course material and the composition of the new, more international and patient-oriented curriculum.
Woerdenbag is more than capable of keeping students interested. Besides his regular classes, for example, he teaches an extra class on a topic that particularly appeals to students. Thus he devoted one of the sessions of the Self-Care course to potency-enhancing herbal remedies. In thirty minutes, he covered the different herbs that allegedly cause erections or enhance one’s libido, to the great fascination of his student audience, of course. Woerdenbag promotes group work among his students for discussing problems and to stimulate critical thought. The syllabi he and his colleagues compile serve as important aids in this process. They are clear, free from superfluous information, and they structure the course. Already during the course, the students are regularly asked about their experiences. This effectively constitutes an intermediate course evaluation and allows for the introduction of improvements in next year’s course.
