Dr C. Zuidema
Christian Zuidema (1978) graduated cum laude from the University of Groningen, repeating this achievement with his PhD gained at the same institution. His current research focuses on the University of Groningen ‘energy’ theme, in particular on the transition from a large-scale, centralized energy landscape to decentralized, small-scale energy provision and the related changes in the planning mechanisms.
Zuidema allows his research to dictate his teaching in a natural manner. In doing so he manages to engage students at all levels and stages of their degree programme. The lecture series ‘Reinventing Environmental Planning’ was extremely well embedded in the related science. The programme was well structured, students understood what was expected of them and the level was high. Zuidema’s key quality is how he manages to fit theory into a social context. He is passionate, but also able to put matters in perspective. He fully understands the art of presentation in a natural manner. All these qualities make him a valuable and valued lecturer in the Environmental and Infrastructure Planning Master’s degree programme. He is helpful and supportive, has a wonderful sense of humour and gets on well with his students. His energy is infectious and really helps in motivating and inspiring his students.
