Target Seminar: ‘From Photons to Information: Satellite Observations of the Atmospheric Composition for Ozone Monitoring, Climate Change and Air Quality Applications’
|When:||Tu 09-07-2013 15:00 - 16:00|
|Where:||Donald Smitszaal, Donald Smits Center for Information Technology, University of Groningen|
Seminar by Pepijn Veefkind, Senior Scientists at the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI)
KNMI is the PI institute for Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and the next generation TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI). These remote sensing instruments have a wide user community ranging from scientific research to near-real-time applications in air quality forecasting and volcanic ash warning systems for aviation. This seminar will focus on the data processing systems of the OMI and TROPOMI missions. The users and their user requirements will be discussed along with the chain of data reception, processing, archiving and dissemination. The challenges of high data rates (1 GByte per orbit for OMI and 25 times higher for TROPOMI) and trade-offs in algorithms used for the time-critical data processing will be highlighted.
All are welcome. The seminar will be followed by an informal reception with snacks and drinks.
If you cannot be in Groningen physically, you can still enjoy the seminar. For the first time, the Target seminar will be streamed live. Just go to http://tinyurl.com/citlivestream-new to watch the seminar from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
