UMCG Research Organisation

Researchers at the UMCG are involved in fundamental and patient-oriented (clinical) research. The UMCG has organised all its research in five Research Institutes  that each have developed research programs around specific aims and objectives.  Research at the UMCG is dynamic and innovative with an ongoing development of emerging programs and initiatives especially in its central field of expertise, Healthy Ageing. The five Research Institutes collaborate in the Graduate School of Medical Sciences to educate students for future scientific leadership. Students graduate at MSc and PhD levels.

The Dean of Research, Prof. L. de Leij, and the Research Office are responsible for the initiation, preparation and the implementation of the research policy.

Focus on Healthy Ageing. The UMCG has developed a strategic focus on Healthy Ageing in all its primary domains: research, patient care and education & training. Several large-scale research programs and facilities were set up within Healthy Ageing.
